Multisite structure of optical spectra of activators in garnet crystals

چکیده
The analysis of selective excitation and emission spectra of l'm3' in YAG and GGG laser systems is presented. The observed multisite structure is assigned to non-stoichiometric defects. Up to six centers are separated, with complex spectra connected with lowering of the local symmetry.

Optical absorption and ESR spectra of reduced vanadium centres in Ca2NaMg2VjOlz are reported. The spectra are interpreted as arising from tetrahedrally coordinated V" and octahedrally coordinated V". The ESR and optical data are correlated using molecular orbital (MO) theory. The composition of the flux-grown single crystals is analysed and discussed.
